Philadelphia Housing Authority Executive Director Carl Greene is on indefinite leave while authorities investigate an alleged string of sexual harassment claims against him. Greene received accolades for transforming Philadelphia’s public housing agency, but this month news surfaced that his own home was in foreclosure and was under a $50,000 IRS lien. Then it was learned that housing authority attorneys quietly settled at least four sexual harassment claims against Greene.
Now Greene could lose his $350,000 a year job over the harassment claims. One of the claims involve a designer who said Greene demanded sexual favors in exchange for a promotion. The housing board is scheduled to meet tomorrow to determine Greene’s fate and fitness for the job.
Greene has led the Philadelphia Housing Authority, the nation’s fourth-largest, since 1998. Ironically, as a resident facing foreclosure, Greene was scheduled to take part in Philly’s mandatory foreclosure-prevention program on Sept. 16.
