When they are putting in their 8 hours at the Ajax Widget Company, I expect them to devote their full attention and energies to the task in front of them. I don't care what they do when they aren't at work and why should I? If they start bringing their issues in to the workplace then things get messy. So I say maintain separation and don't get involved in any work-life balance issues. My thoughts are that work-life balance is the employee's responsibility.
